MARLBOROUGH, MA: General Manager and Hockey Director Patrick Nugent has announced that Puckmasters Marlborough and the Starhawks Youth Hockey Association, players from Hudson, Milford and Northboro, have signed a one-year contract which will insure that players from the mite to bantam level will utilize the Puckmasters Hockey training facility and staff to augment their current skill development programming.
Players will work in small groups under the direction of both the Puckmasters and Starhawks coaching staffs. Training emphasis will focus on developing sound fundamental shooting, stickhandling, and skating technique.
The term of the contract will see the Starhawks utilizing the facility through February of 2004, with an option to renew for the following 2004-05 season.
"Puckmasters is hockey's equivalent to the batting cage. We get expert coaching and a skating facility scaled down to accommodate small groups at a reasonable price. This frees up expensive ice time to allow our coaches to focus on conditioning and game strategies," says Starhawks President Joe McNealy.
"I feel we just scored a hat trick with one shot! The Starhawks are learning the mechanical sequences of sound fundamental shooting, passing, and skating from a single source, which puts everyone on the same page. An added bonus is we have a skating surface available during the high school hockey season. The Starhawk player development just took a giant leap forward by engaging the Puckmaster facility."
