Hamilton comes up big for UML

LOWELL -- Nevin Hamilton was down, but not out.

It was 50 seconds into overtime. He had already made two saves and the puck squirted to UMass Amherst's Mike Lecomte.

Somehow, despite the fact that Hamilton was laying on his back, he made a glove save to rob Lecomte and preserve UMass Lowell's 3-3 tie with the 20th-ranked Minutemen last night before a festive crowd of 4,028 at Tsongas Arena.

"He was down and out," said left wing Kory Falite, who led UML with two goals, shaking his head in admiration. "He always seems to make the big save that we need."

"I just threw out the glove," said Hamilton, a native of Ashland. "It was probably a little bit of luck. In overtime you have to be determined and focused. Hopefully they've got a good (videotape) angle on that."

Falite witnessed Hamilton's robbery from the bench.

"We were like, 'Wow.' We couldn't believe it," Falite said.
