MARLBORO, MA: Since opening in September of 2003, each season Puckmasters of Marlboro has expanded it’s training staff with some of the brightest young minds in the area. This year is no exception as General Manager and Hockey Director Patrick Nugent welcomes ten new coaches to an already strong core of hockey experts. This year’s crop includes assistant coaches from Assumption College, Nichols College, as well as a former assistant at Union College and a two-year professional playing veteran and a Union College captain.
Dan Tatar and Scott Seney make up the Union College connection. Both played for the Dutchmen at the NCAA Division I level, with Seney (a two-year captain) graduating in 2006 and Tatar in 2007. Following graduation Seney played two years of professional hockey for Phoenix Roadrunners and the Fort Wayne Comets, while Tatar jumped right into the coaching ranks serving as an assistant coach for his alma-mater. A pair of entrepreneurs, Tatar and Seney run their own marketing and promotional products business: ADK Promotions.
Jeff Clark and Nick Unger are the resident collegiate coaches. Clarkie, as he’s affectionately known by most, serves as an assistant at Assumption College in Worcester, while Unger is assisting at his alma mater Nichols College. Both schools compete at the NCAA Division III level.
Mike Mead, a native West Boylston MA, brings 13 years of Division I High school experience from St. John’s of Shrewsbury, while CT McLean brings collegiate playing experience from Bryant University and Salem Sate College. Rounding out the 2008 new Puckmasters staff additions are Russ Stein, Patch Alber, Evan Gogonis and Max Baron all of whom are post-graduates playing for the Boston Junior Bruins in the hopes of earning a Division I College Scholarship.
