SYHA is the first organization to utilize the Puckmastes staff for both on-site and off-site training.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREE?S!

The Shrewsbury Youth Hockey Association becomes the third organization to partner with Puckmasters of Marlborough for skill development training.

MARLBOROUGH, MA: General Manager and Hockey Director Patrick Nugent has announced that the Puckmasters Hockey Training Center of Marlborough has reached an agreement with the Shrewsbury Youth Hockey Association which will see the two entities form a partnership to provide its players and coaches with skill development programming for the duration of the 2004-05 season. Shrewsbury becomes the third Youth Hockey Association to sign on for a season-long term with Puckmasters joining the Starhawks of Hudson, Milford and Northborough, and SMS of Sudbury, Maynard and Stow.

?The people from Shrewsbury have been fantastic to work with thus far,? says Nugent. ?Their players, parents and coaches have a real passion for the game and a true thirst to learn. We?re really looking forward to working with them.?

The announcement is significant because it marks the first time an organization will be utilizing the Puckmasters staff not only for on-site training but also for training on the regular Shrewsbury practice ice.

Under the terms of the agreement, Puckmasters will facilitate on-ice skill development practices on the Shrewsbury practice ice, located at the Lake Avenue Arena in Worcester during the months of September and October. Beginning in the first week of November and finishing in the final week of February, the Shrewsbury players will train at Puckmasters on Wednesday evenings for three-hour blocks of time. Each team will train for approximately four one-hour sessions throughout the 16-week period.

Players will work in small groups under the direction of both the Puckmasters and Shrewsbury coaches. Topics to be covered will include but will not be limited to: fundamental skating technique, shooting, puck control, passing, and checking.

In addition to player skill training, Puckmasters will also provide two coaching clinics which will also be held in September. Each clinic will focus on age-appropriate player development philosophies and methods and will detail creative ways to implement an effective skill development practice.

As part of the agreement, the Shrewsbury Youth Hockey ?House League? will carry the Puckmasters logo on their jerseys while the association will help to promote Puckmasters programming through their website and distribution of marketing materials. In exchange, Puckmasters will also grant Shrewsbury players a 10% discount on any one-on-one or small group membership program.

?We?re really looking forward to working with the staff at Puckmasters,? says Shrewsbury Youth Hockey President Mike Powers. ?This promises to be the best skills program SYHA has ever had.?
